Google positively sees the scenario of using a MediaTek processor for the Galaxy S25

The upcoming release of the Galaxy S25 series is scheduled by Samsung for early 2025, and questions have already been raised about the choice of chipset. However, Google’s DeepMind website may imply use of a new MediaTek flagship chipset for a future Samsung phone.

AlphaChip technology is part of Google’s DeepMind AI division and this is an artificial intelligence method for designing processors. A blog post mentions some AlphaChip hits and seems to hint at a flagship MediaTek chipset coming to Samsung phones. In the same post it is specifically noted that the AlphaChip was used “to accelerate the development of (MediaTek’s) most advanced chips — such as the Dimensity Flagship 5G used in Samsung mobile phones — while improving the chip’s power, performance and area.”

What do you think, could this report be wrong? Could the post be referring to the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 series which uses the flagship Dimensity 9300 Plus processor? We’re not ruling anything out, but this isn’t the only Google report talking about a MediaTek chip being used in Samsung phones.

“Beyond Google, AlphaChip’s influence is spreading. “MediaTek, as a leading chip designer, has adopted AlphaChip to improve its own chips, including those found in Samsung mobile phones,” Google spokesman Steve Soleimani said in an excerpt from a LinkedIn post.

However, this would be an interesting turn of events as Samsung has never used a Dimensity series flagship chip in its phones. Instead, the company has long preferred to use Snapdragon chips in conjunction with its own Exynos processors wherever possible. So this delivery is a reason to be skeptical of a MediaTek-signed Galaxy S25 or S25 FE.

It’s also possible that the AlphaChip post and Soleimani are referring to mid-range Samsung phones with MediaTek chips. However, the blog post’s reference to “more advanced chips” and the use of the term “Dimensity flagship 5G”indicates the opposite.

MediaTek’s flagship chips are also believed to be cheaper than Snapdragon SoCs, which could translate into higher margins for Samsung or lower prices for consumers.

Would you buy a Galaxy S25 with a MediaTek chip?
