With Google Trends a Google of its interfaces (Google search, Google News, YouTube) current search trends we can see, that is, what topics people follow – or don’t follow. In this way, we can find out what the users of Google’s interfaces are interested in, and, if we need it,

we can also display this data visually to illustrate general interest in a topic or even a person.

A interface home page in addition to the topics offered by , we can search for any topic and assess interest. By clicking on the “Discovery” page, we can enter search terms or topics that we consider interesting. While in the case of the former, we can only see searches for a specific word or phrase, the topics cover broader groups of phrases, regardless of language. For example, if you search for London and select it as a topic, the search will also include results related to topics such as “Capital of the United Kingdom” and “Londres”, which is the Spanish name for London.

Interest in different terms and topics we can also compare them, so we can see the development of trends on a graph.

On the “Discovery” page, you can also set filters if you want to examine detailed data: you can choose which area (worldwide, Hungary or another country), how long a time interval (the last hour, the last 12 months, or even the period since 2004, etc. ), as well as the data of which Google platform we want to see.

From now on, we can get an even more up-to-date picture of the trends

Google at the end of the summer reported the Trends interface Trending right now” (“Trending now”) page, where instead of the topics we are interested in, we can immediately see the topics that most excite Internet users.

The page that collects the most popular terms existed before within Google Trends, but with the new update we can get much more information about each topic. One of the great innovations of the function is that from now on updates data every 10 minutes, this way we can get more up-to-date information than ever before about what the users of the three Google platforms are looking for the most.

The subpage can be accessed in the top menu bar, next to the “Explore” button. By clicking on it, the interface lists the most popular search words and phrases one below the other.

Various information about trends can be found in the columns of the interface. From left to right, the first column shows the volume of all searches and we can see the percentage of the trend rise. In the column next to it, you can read the beginning of the trend, as well as whether we are talking about a trend that is currently active or has already “ended”.

A trend will have an Active status when more people search for it than usual in the set interval,

Search terms that have been searched for by more people than usual in a set time frame, but at the time when the data is viewed, interest has already declined, are given the designation “Lasted until:”.

The website will automatically list the most active, active trends at the top, but by scrolling down you can also browse previously running trends. For example, the war conflict unfolding in the Middle East this week is of current interest to many people, while short, limited-time events (for example, football matches) only generate more interest at the time of the given event.

In the “Breakdown by trend” column, we can see which terms the system considers to belong to the given topic. Interest in these terms can also be filtered by clicking on the terms.

In the right-hand column, Google Trends summarizes how the search intensity developed in the examined period in a small graph.

If we click on a specific topic on the interface, we can find out more details about the given trend. Here you can get a slightly more detailed graph, trending search terms and relevant news to gain deeper insight into a particular topic.

Here’s how you can customize the “What’s Hot Now” page

As we have become accustomed to with other functions of Google Trends, on the “Currently trending” interface it is also possible to use filters to determine the exact area and time interval we are interested in.

The function is currently It provides insight into the search trends of 125 countries. In the case of 40 of these countries, we have the option of narrowing down the examined area to separate regions (e.g. states in the USA and provinces in Germany).

When setting the interval, in addition to the default 24-hour time window, we have the option to view topics that have become popular in the last 4 hours, 48 ​​hours, and 7 days. As mentioned above, not all of these are active topics, there are also some that generated a lot of interest at some point during the given period.

In addition to defining the time and space, we also have the option to filter our searches to active trends only.

This is how you can compare current topics

Although the “Currently trending” function gives a good idea of ​​what trends shape the search history the most, detailed statistics on the topics can be found on the “Discovery” page already presented in our previous articles. On the “Currently popular” trends page, with a few clicks, you can choose which topics you want to examine in detail, and then you can even compare them.
