First Google TV Streamer update
The Google TV Streamer has received its first software update. The media player, which succeeds the Chromecast with Google TV, is now provided with the update with the version number UTT3.240625.001.K9. It is just over 35MB in size and can be downloaded and installed immediately.
Unfortunately, the update does not bring any significant improvements. There are no new functions and the TV Streamer is not provided with a new Android security update. According to Google, the update does fix bugs and bring performance improvements.
It is noticeable that downloading and installing takes more time than with the average Chromecast with Google TV update. The TV Streamer now does this in two steps. - On your Google TV Streamer, go to the gear icon at the top right and open the settings;
- Navigate to ‘System > About > System Update’;
- Your Google TV Streamer will now check for updates;
- Download and install the latest version.

The Google TV Streamer is a worthy successor to the Chromecast. The media player has everything that made the Chromecast with Google TV so good and adds nice improvements. We are particularly pleased with the speed of the hardware: the TV Streamer is really a lot faster than its predecessor. The new remote control is also useful and the smart home functions work well.
However, the higher recommended retail price will not please everyone. At 119 euros, the TV Streamer is significantly more expensive than the Chromecast with Google TV and is therefore less accessible.
If you occasionally stream a film or series and don’t need much else, you are still well off with a Chromecast. If you are looking for something more, we definitely recommend the Google TV Streamer.
