The Google TV Streamer is finally for sale in the Netherlands from today! Check here where you can get the new media player.

Google TV Streamer now on sale

We were a bit shocked when Google recently announced that the Chromecast is disappearing. The streaming device has been extremely popular for years, but the search giant is still pulling the plug. Too bad, but fortunately there is now a successor available: the Google TV Streamer.

The Google TV Streamer is more powerful, more extensive and has a different design than the Chromecast. He’s with 119 euro also a lot more expensive than its predecessors. For comparison: the Chromecast with Google TV costs 69 euros, while you can buy the cheaper HD version for about 40 euros.

The Google TV Streamer can currently only be found at Coolblue and Bol, but will probably appear at more (web) stores soon. We will update this article if the media player appears in other web shops.

The older Chromecasts will not immediately disappear from the shelves. As long as the stores still have stock, you can still get the streaming dongles. Google also promises to provide the Chromecast with updates for a while, so you can continue to use it.

This is the Google TV Streamer

You can immediately see that the Google TV Streamer is a new media player, because it has a different design. Where the Chromecast with Google TV is a small device, the Streamer looks more like a flat media box. You don’t hide it behind your television, but give it a place on your television cabinet.

The TV Streamer is also more powerful than the Chromecasts thanks to a better chip. The processor is more than 20 percent faster than the hardware in the Chromecast, which means apps should start faster. In addition, the Streamer has much more storage space: 32GB instead of the meager 8GB of the Chromecasts.

You can also operate the media player with the new remote control. The remote should fit better in the hand and be slightly longer. There is a new button that you can link to an app yourself. Finally, you are less likely to lose the remote control, because it makes a sound when you press a button on the TV Streamer.
