Google’s ‘where do I vote’ glitch

Google said it is working to fix a glitch that returned different search results for “where can I vote for Harris” and “where can I vote for Trump” in the 2024 US election.

Results for the Kamala Harris query returned a window that helped searchers find a polling place, but the Donald Trump query returned only news articles and no map.

The issue was highlighted in an X post shared by owner Elon Musk on Tuesday afternoon, which quickly garnered more than 4.5 million views.

Google’s answer

Google’s official X account responded by saying:

“The ‘where to vote’ panel is triggered for some specific searches (because) Harris is also the name of a county in (Texas).

It also goes for ‘Vance’ (because it’s also the name of a county). The company said it is working on a fix. Google added: “Very few people actually search for polling places this way.”
