Government and Generalitat agree on 1,058 million for Rodalies in the midst of negotiations to invest Illa

The State will transfer 1.52 billion euros over the next three years to the Generalitat to continue to comply with the agreement between PSOE and ERC for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, a volume of resources with which a step forward is taken in Rodalies, with the transfer of 1.058 billion, and the promises regarding university scholarships and R&D are fulfilled.

This was agreed by the Joint Commission of the State and the Generalitat for Economic and Fiscal Affairs, which brought together in Barcelona the councilors Natàlia Mas (Economy) and Ester Capella (Territory) and the Secretaries of State for Finance, Jesús Gascón, and Territorial Policy, Arcadi España, a meeting that takes place in a political context marked by the negotiations between PSC and ERC for the investiture of Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Mas announced that the Generalitat will receive a total of 1.52 billion euros from now until 2026, that is, in the next three years, and another 442 million from 2027. This agreement represents “a correction in the underfunding” that Catalonia suffers, although it is “insufficient” to guarantee the investiture of Salvador Illa, Mas added, reports EFE.

Monday’s agreement comes in a context in which ERC has given an ultimatum to the PSC for the investiture of Illa. The Republican representatives in the negotiation have warned this Monday that if there is not “a clear and decisive step forward towards fiscal sovereignty” they will not facilitate Illa’s investiture. If an agreement has not been reached by the end of July, ERC has recalled that it will leave the negotiating table and Catalonia will rush into repeat elections in October.

The countdown to the negotiations for the Catalan investiture is taking place in parallel with the fulfilment, by the Government, of the commitments it made last year with ERC for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. Last Thursday, both administrations already finalised the first transfer of one of the Rodalies lines that connects Barcelona with the Maresme region and the rest of the metropolitan area.
