Government recommends that RTP1 be financed without advertising – Media

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs announced this Wednesday that the new RTP concession contract recommends that RTP1 should tend to stop being financed by advertising, without establishing a deadline, with the imposition of its end in 2027.

Pedro Duarte, who was speaking in an interview with CNN Portugal, added that the review of the concession contract for RTP’s public radio and television service was put up for public consultation this Wednesday and that “one of the measures there has to do with ” with your financing.

“We had an original intention to free RTP from commercial advertising” by 2027 “to be able to be closer to the people and therefore reach more people”, but “parliament stopped this” and “democratically we were, in a sense, forced to give up on this original idea”, and it is now recommended that “RTP should tend to be in the coming years, we don’t have a deadline, but it should move in the direction that RTP1 stops being financed by commercial advertising”, stated the government official.
