The Government signed agreements this Monday with the local authorities of 14 municipalities in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo to build and rehabilitate 4,130 houses for the most needy families, worth 400 million euros.
Almada, Alcochete, Cascais, Lisbon, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Odivelas, Oeiras, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira signed agreements and terms of responsibility and acceptance today, at the Prime Minister’s official residence, in Lisbon, under the Housing Access Support Program, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP, European funds).
At the same ceremony, agreements were also signed with the local authorities of Fafe, Guimarães, Lamego and Matosinhos, increasing the number of houses in the North region to 1,450, under the same measure.
As part of the agreements with these four municipalities, 355 homes will be built and rehabilitated, with a total investment of 54 million euros.
According to information provided by the Government, more than 300 contracts and terms of responsibility have already been signed with local authorities for the construction and renovation of houses, with a total value of around 720 million euros.
The term of responsibility allows municipal councils to move forward with the construction or rehabilitation of buildings for decent housing for the most vulnerable families, with the approval of applications by the Housing and Rehabilitation Institute (IHRU) being left for a later stage.
The signing of the terms of responsibility and acceptance by the municipalities, which is part of the Government’s housing strategy, provided for in the Construir Portugal program, began in June, with agreements already signed with around a hundred municipalities from North to South of the country.
