In the coming years, the government wants to maintain the emergency energy fund. An amount has been set aside for 2025 and 2026 to pay for this, although help from energy suppliers is also needed.
As with the Temporary Emergency Energy Fund that is now in place, energy suppliers and private parties from the industry are obliged to contribute, in addition to money that the government contributes. This year, more than 110,000 households are making use of this. 84 million euros have been made available for this, but not all applications are being honored: tens of thousands of applications were not eligible for this financial support.
Emergency Energy Fund
The Emergency Energy Fund is not the same as, for example, the energy ceiling that was in place last year to help everyone keep their heads above water when energy prices shot up. That no longer exists. The Emergency Energy Fund is for emergencies, so households with a low income and a high energy bill could be helped. Could, because the Temporary Emergency Energy Fund is currently closed.
There was a great need for this this year, especially in Rotterdam and the municipality of Pekela emergency fund. In any case, there is more demand for it than before. 110,937 of the 194,033 applications were approved and the support amount is on average 97 euros per month. The number of applications and approved applications has more than doubled compared to last year, when the Emergency Fund was new. Now we know in any case that it will also exist next year and the year after to ensure that households that can really use it can receive this important help.
