Government wants to rehabilitate Greater Lisbon from Seixal to Oeiras – Politics

It is a megaplan that Luís Montenegro announced on Sunday for the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML). A “major rehabilitation project” that runs from the South Bank of the Tagus to Oeiras, covering 2.8 million people.

In Braga, at the end of the 42nd PSD Congress, the prime minister was “looking at Lisbon”, in a plan divided into three poles: Arco Ribeirinho Sul (Almada, Barreiro and Seixal), the area from Vale do Jamor to Algés (Lisbon and Oeiras) and the land that will be released when Humberto Delgado Airport is deactivated (Lisbon and Loures).

To manage this “innovation, revitalization, culture, housing and environmental sustainability project”, the creation of an urban management and rehabilitation company, called Parque Humberto Delgado, was announced. But the announcement didn’t go any further. How much it will cost, who will preside over the company or what the deadlines are for moving forward with the project have not been revealed.Of the seven new measures mentioned by Montenegro, security was also highlighted, with promises to install more video surveillance systems, “relentless” combat against violent crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and illegal immigration and greater visibility of forces of security. As for domestic violence, the amount of support for victims of this crime will double. In immigration, the social democratic leader waved to the left, with more reception centers, and to the electorate further to the right, with a program to attract qualified foreigners. The biggest applause, however, was for the change in the Citizenship discipline, to “free it from ideological projects”, a measure that was applauded. Still in Education, the Government wants to increase the contribution per room to help with the provision of pre-school.An agreement with Spain was also revealed to manage water and make medicines available in local pharmacies instead of the hospital.

Chega Flags
André Ventura complained that the Government had appropriated Chega flags, as in immigration, which he called “tremendous hypocrisy”.

CEDENCE TO THE EXTREME RIGHT
PS parliamentary leader, Alexandra Leitão, criticized the Government for “appropriating the far-right discourse” on security and immigration. The socialist leader accused Luís Montenegro of making “announcements and more announcements” and that the party is only “social democratic in name” because “it takes from the public to give to the private”.

CURRENCIES IN THE NATIONAL BODY
Carlos Moedas, mayor of Lisbon, is one of those chosen for the PSD National Council. The future European Commissioner, Maria Luís Albuquerque, Teresa Morais and Luís Campos Ferreira are other advisors.
