Graphics card price overview: Who doesn’t want to bargain, what to buy today? – Chapter 1

Compared to last month, the overview of graphics card prices saw rather minor changes. The dollar went up slightly again. But the prices differ by more than ten crowns, a maximum of one hundred crowns. New cards are not in sight, the fact that the old ones would remain lying in the warehouses at a time when there is a huge hunger for cards due to AI, the manufacturers are probably not afraid either, and so the prices are more or less stagnant.

Buying lower models than the RTX 3050 and RX 6500 XT for games certainly doesn’t make sense at the moment due to the low performance. And even the cheap models from the GeForce RTX 30 and Radeon RX 6000 series are not worth it, in terms of the price/performance ratio, they are worse off than more powerful cards.

Especially with the cheapest models, you have to keep a close eye on the prices and configuration of the cards, seemingly small differences in the labeling can mean a significant difference in performance, and every hundred kroner difference in price can make a favorable card disadvantageous and vice versa. You will commonly find that even if the performance differs by tens of percent, they cost practically the same, sometimes even that the slower card is more expensive. This applies mainly to the cheap GeForce RTX 30 series.

With cheaper GeForce, be careful about memory

For GeForce RTX 3050 and RTX 3060, pay attention to the memory capacity, to the original 8GB RTX 3050 a 12GB RTX 3060 cheaper ones were added variants with trimmed memory buslower memory capacity and lower performance – RTX 3050 se 6 GB memories and RTX 3060 s 8 GB memoirs. In tests across the Internet, you will find mainly the original variants, the trimmed ones have not been tested much. But there are both in stores. Keep in mind that the trimmed models have significantly lower performance due to the narrower memory bus, and at a similar price it is definitely worth going for the original full-size versions with a higher memory capacity. Sometimes you even come across that slower trimmed models with less memory capacity they are more expensive.

While last month the difference between RX 7600 and RX 7600 XT was smaller than at launch, currently there is a difference of around two thousand again between the cheapest models from both lines. At the same time, the RX 7600 XT has practically the same chip configuration, with the cheaper 8GB RX 7600, the chip is only slightly slower due to lower clock rates. The difference in the price of two thousand is not insignificant if you consider that in most games, more memory will not bring an adequate increase in performance. It is still true that if you think 8 GB of memory is not enough, the solution can be 12 GB cards, which have a much better price/performance ratio compared to the RX 7600 XT.

I u RTX 4060 Ti pay attention to memory capacity. It is produced in a version with 8 and 16 GB of memory. However, for this model, a higher memory capacity in the resolution it is built for does not mean higher performance in games. This happens rather exceptionally, for the future. An additional payment of around two thousand will not be adequately reflected in the performance at present and probably not even in the near future. The more expensive 16GB RTX 4060 Ti only makes sense for games if you are not going to change the graphics card for a really long time, or if you are buying it for a specific title that you know is more memory demanding and 8GB GeForce is not enough for it. And of course, if you need it for applications and AI, while at the same time GPU performance is enough for you. The RTX 4060 Ti is then the cheapest option to get a GeForce with 16 GB of memory. Another more powerful GeForce model with 16 GB of memory is the RTX 4070 Ti Super, which is almost twice as expensive.

There are probably no insidious features in the higher models. Just be careful not to end up with a price so high that you can buy a higher model with a minimal extra charge as you choose better and better models – the prices of the top models often overlap with the price of the cheapest models in the higher ranges, which means that you can have a significantly more powerful card for the same money.

Especially with older GeForce RTX 40 models, take a good look to see if you can buy a more powerful Super version for the same money, the prices often overlap with the original and less powerful variant without the Super suffix.

In the following table, you will find the following items in individual columns:

• MSRP (USD) – the price recommended by AMD and Nvidia at the launch of the given models. Both AMD and Nvidia usually list recommended prices in crowns for individual models. It has been quite a long time since the launch of most models, and there were sometimes changes in Czech prices along with exchange rates, so I preferred to take the original dollar prices at launch in the recommended price (MSRP) column in crowns, recalculate them according to the current exchange rate and add VAT.
• Alza.cz (fund) – the cheapest models in Alza that are available in stock or at the supplier.
• Heureka.cz – the lowest prices from the Heureka search engine that are available in online stores. Internet marketplaces are omitted, if the card can be purchased in regular e-shops dealing with hardware such as Alza.cz, CZC.cz, TS Bohemia, Mironet, Softcom, Suntech and others, which already have a longer history and hundreds or rather thousands of ratings with significant by the preponderance of positive ones.
• Bargain, discount off MSRP – how much the price of the cards has changed compared to their launch price. Due to exchange rate differences, this is not the difference against the original recommended price in crowns, but is calculated from the dollar price including VAT according to the current exchange rate.

Prices are usually not more than a day old, but it is possible that not all of them will be current by the time you read the article. It involves a larger number of items across different stores, and both the stock of various expensive models and the prices of the cards themselves are constantly changing. However, the difference compared to the current situation is usually at the level of a few hundred crowns. Only exceptionally will it be more if a cheaper model sold out of stock disappears and they remain significantly more expensive, but in that case you can subtract the current price/performance ratio from the price you find in the last graph.
