Great Britain became the largest European market for electric cars

The UK has become Europe’s largest electric car (EV) market, dethroning Germany, latest figures show.

In Great Britain last year, the number of electric vehicle registrations increased by 21 percent to 381,970, while in Germany the number fell by more than 25 percent to 380,609 EVs, the German regulator KBA announced.

Carmakers in Britain have to comply with local rules mandating the sale of a certain percentage of electric vehicles, while demand for EVs in Germany has fallen since the government in Berlin stopped subsidizing buyers, reports Blumberg.

As he states Tanjug, the number of registered electric battery-powered vehicles in the EU fell by 9.5 percent year-on-year to 130,757 cars in November, primarily due to a drop in the registration of new electric cars in Germany by 21.8 percent and France by 24.4 percent, the Association of European of car manufacturers (ACEA).

From January to November, 1,303,686 new battery-powered electric vehicles were registered in the European Union, which is 5.4 percent less than in the same period last year.

Many EV makers are waiting until 2025 to introduce new models to increase their chances of meeting new European Union regulations that take effect this year, analyst Matthias Schmidt said, adding that this factor also contributed to weaker sales last year.
