Great honor for biathlon Olympic champion

Great honor for Mona Brorsson: The 2022 Olympic biathlon champion was honored after the end of her career.

The Swedish Federation named Brorsson “Biathlete of the 2023/24 season”.

“A biathlete must be focused until the finish line, the biathlete of the year is a good example of this,” says the official justification.

Brorsson ended her active career after last season. The 34-year-old finished in a more than respectable 14th place in the overall World Cup, making her the third-best Swede of the biathlon winter behind the Öberg sisters Elvira (7th) and Hanna (12th).

As part of the award, the Swedish federation also highlighted Brorsson’s career highlights – including the 2022 Olympic victory with the relay team.

Mona Brorsson stays in biathlon

The Scandinavian will remain involved in biathlon, however. Brorsson will now work as an expert in Sweden.

“It’s a bit of a mixed feeling,” she recently told Expressen about her time after her active career. “You love competing, but you feel like you’re unprepared, untrained and haven’t fired a single shot since I stopped,” Brorsson explained.

As an expert, she wants to offer biathlon fans a “broad perspective” in the future, the former ski hunter said, looking ahead to her new role.

Brorsson was already in action at the “Expressen” microphone during the Swedish Biathlon Summer Championships in Järna last weekend.

The upcoming World Cup season begins on November 30th in Kontiolahti, Finland. The highlight of the winter is the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide (Switzerland/ February 11th to 23rd, 2025). Brorsson will then be watching closely in her role as an expert.
