The Slovak national hockey team presented the first two names that will strengthen the team in the qualification for the 2026 Winter Olympics. They are forward Tomáš Tatar and defender Šimon Nemec.
Both are active in the overseas NHL in the New Jersey Devils team. Tatar and German were the mainstays of the Slovak team at the World Championships in the Czech Republic in May.
While Tatar acted in the role of offensive leader and team captain, the German is already a stable support of the defense.
Slovakia is the organizer of one of the three qualifying tournaments, the winner of which will advance to the 2026 Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Slovakia will gradually challenge Austria, Hungary and Kazakhstan. The Slovaks also had to fight for the 2022 Olympics in Beijing in the qualification, where they finally won bronze medals.
