Greece cannot deliver Russian-made weapons to Ukraine, because it has no right to do so without Moscow’s consent, said the Russian ambassador to Greece, Alexander Maslov.
The ambassador emphasized that Russia and Greece concluded two intergovernmental agreements: on military-technical cooperation from October 30, 1995, and on the procurement of military production from December 3, 2013.
– According to them, the transfer of these weapons is impossible without the written consent of the Russian side. This is not a political, but an international legal obligation of Greece that must be respected – emphasized Maslov.
The ambassador called the Greek media reports about Athens’ alleged plans to transfer air defense systems to Ukraine rumors. Moscow has no reason to take any diplomatic steps because of this, he said.
Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, speaking about the possibility of sending an air defense system to Ukraine, emphasized that Greece will not take “any step that could create even the slightest threat” to the country’s deterrent forces or air defense.
