One of the largest solar power plants in Europe will be built in Greece, which shows the determination of this country towards renewable energy sources. The area of Larissa in the administrative region of Central Greece was chosen as the location.
The company started the construction of a solar power plant with a maximum power of 560 megawatts Ameresco Sunel Energywhich was chosen as the contractor, while it should be put into operation in a period of 18 to 24 months, i.e. at the beginning of 2026. Ameresco Sunel Energy is a joint venture between Americaa leading integrator of clean technologies specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, and Sunel Grupean international leading contractor of solar photovoltaic projects.
This project is called Enipeas, and it consists of two parts: Skopje, whose power is 400 MWp, and Kalite, with a power of 160 MWp.
Upon completion of the project, it is expected to generate 0.90 TWh of electricity per year, which will enable the supply of electricity to 225,000 households. CO2 emissions will be reduced by 379 kilotons per year.

The area of the solar park is about 6,926 hectares, where 968,630 photovoltaic modules will be installed.
The project is co-financed by the European Union through the “NextGenerationEU” fund. The owner of this solar plant is an oil company Lightsource bp, originally from Great Britain, and appeared on the Greek market four years ago.
“The 560 MWp Enipeas project significantly contributes to creating a more sustainable future for Greece as it will provide affordable, secure and cleaner energy and support the country’s decarbonisation and energy independence goals. We are excited to partner with Ameresco Sunel Energy SA on the Enipeas project, one of the largest clean energy projects of its kind in Europe,” said Natalia Paraskevopoulou, from Lightsource bp.
The total investment required for this project is estimated at 395 million euros. This project is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, called “Greece 2.0”, and is designed to encourage the country’s energy transition and decarbonization.
