Greek police have the smallest and slowest cars in the world, but there’s a good reason

The Greek islands, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, welcome thousands of visitors every year. To ensure the safety of tourists, local law enforcement has acquired vehicles suitable for the particular road characteristics of the islandswith the support of Citroen.

The roads of the Greek islands, in fact, are not suitable for large SUVs, being often narrow and winding. In particular, on the island of Chalki the police needed cars that could move even in the narrowest alleys.

The solution came with the Citroen Amiprobably the slowest police car in the world. Although it cannot participate in high-speed chases, it is the perfect choice for the Chalki law enforcement.

This fleet of small, iconic electric cars is part of ajoint initiative between Citroen and local authorities aimed at making the island more sustainable. The car company has supplied a total of six electric vehicles, including two Ami models for the police and coast guard, due e-C4 for the municipality and others for the remaining departments.

The choice of Ami allows the police to patrol all areas without worrying about the size of the streets. Despite the maximum speed of only 45 km/h, this compact vehicle is sufficient to ensure safety on the streets of Chalki.

The adoption of these compact electric vehicles represents a innovative approach to urban mobility in particular contexts such as the Greek islands. Although they may seem unusual compared to traditional police cars, these vehicles allow law enforcement to carry out their work effectively while respecting the environment and the characteristics of the territory.
