Several employees of a sanitation company are being investigated by the Timisoara police for fuel theft. The amount stolen is estimated at around 70 tonnes. Three of the thieves, drivers of the company’s vehicles, were detained after being caught in the act.

According to a statement sent on Thursday, September 19, by the Timiş County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), on September 16, the policemen of Timişoara Urban Section 5 were alerted that certain employees of a company that provides sanitation services, mainly drivers on the work vans constantly steal significant amounts of fuel, an unjustified consumption of approximately 70 tons of fuel was observed between January 1 and August 17.

Following the checks carried out, criminal proceedings were ordered against 13 men suspected of theft and one man suspected of fraudulent management, with the embezzlement of approximately 70 tons of fuel being held for them.

During Thursday, September 19, red-handed arrests were organized, several company vehicles were stopped, and three of their drivers were taken to their personal cars, where they were searched, and the amount of 160 liters of fuel, which was unavailable.

The three men between the ages of 35 and 40 were detained for 24 hours for theft, being taken to the Detention and Preventive Arrest Center of the Timiş Police.

In the case, investigations are continuing in order to establish the entire criminal activity of the persons involved.

The entire activity was carried out under the coordination of the case prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Timisoara District Court.
