Group Turaidas Roze invites you to 40-year anniversary concerts

“Composer Imantas Kalniņš’s songs, although not the easiest and simplest, unite generations; both young and old sing and listen to them. That’s why we invite everyone to celebrate together in the spring, because the holiday is here again, when we can sing together! It seems that everyone has their own Humming Imantas Kalniņš song, which changes depending on the mood, when the words of the song are said so directly and precisely…” say the musicians, adding that these anniversary concerts will be very special, because the band will be joined on stage by a brass band horizon, for which songs are specially arranged, allowing them to acquire a special, previously unheard sound.

“We have performed together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra ten years ago, but we will be collaborating for the first time with a brass band, in which more than 40 musicians play. The idea for such a collaboration came to me when I watched the very beautiful concert of the combined brass band at last year’s Song and Dance Festival, which took place in Andrejsala – especially when they played Imantas Kalniņš’s music from the film Blow, winds! I spoke to the conductor of the concert, Tomas Kokamega, and we agreed that there would be a new one Turaida Roses concert program in collaboration with a brass band Horizon. It will be something unprecedented and very interesting! At the anniversary concerts, songs will certainly be played in new arrangements Oh, sister Lithuania!, Who are you?, Don’t let the children in the forest, mother, Wind and linden and other Imantas Kalniņas most beautiful songs. The program also includes some lesser-heard compositions, which will be a discovery for many,” Olga Rajecka outlines the upcoming concerts, adding that local brass bands will host concerts in each city. “It will be very powerful and impressive, and I think Imants Kalniņš deserves it – let him be heard far, far away!”

The group’s soloist Uģis Roze admits: “Since there have been no concerts for a long time for a wider audience, our anniversary tour will be an opportunity to please Turaida Roses listeners! There will be surprises at the concerts – both in the accompanying line-up and otherwise, so it will be interesting for everyone.”

On the other hand, the group’s guitarist Aivars Gudrais is waiting with interest for the moment how everything will sound together with the brass band. “Once upon a time we played together with a symphony orchestra, but cooperation with a brass band will be unprecedented, because I have never heard them play the music of Imantas Kalniņš,” he laughs and adds that he will be happy to see all the listeners at the concerts who Turaida Roses attended concerts in the 1980s, with children and grandchildren. “Also, we haven’t met Ugis and Olga at concerts for a long time, so this will be such a happy meeting on stage. And I’m still waiting for ImKa to maybe write a new song in honor Turaida Roses for the anniversary…”

The instrumental group led by Jānis Miltiņš (keyboards) will take part in the concerts: Jānis Rubiks (bass guitar), Aivars Gudrais (guitar), Armands Mediņš (percussion instruments).

Let us remind you that the group Rose of Turaida founded in 1985, and composer Imants Kalniņš, as well as soloists Olga Rajecka and Uģis Roze, became its most expressive musical calling card, becoming an irreplaceable asset of Latvian pop music in the 80s of the last century.
