GTA 6: Actors’ Strike Won’t Slow Down Development

The production of Grand Theft Auto VIone of the most anticipated games of 2025, will not be affected by the ongoing strike by video game actors and voice actors represented by the SAG-AFTRA union.

This title, along with other projects already in developmentis exempt from industrial action which is involving some of the largest companies in the sector.

Video game actors have been on strike since July.

A spokesperson for the publishers involved in the dispute, including Take-Two (owner of Rockstar Games), confirmed that GTA VI is exempt from the strike.

This information is supported by a search in the SAG-AFTRA database of interested projectswhich shows how members can continue working on the next open-world shooter during the strike.

According to Audrey Cooling, a spokeswoman for the companies, All games already in development before September 2023 are exempt from trade union action.

The strike began in July after the negotiations, which lasted over a yearthey stopped on the question of the protections from artificial intelligence.

While companies including Epic Games, EA and Activision claim to have offered significant concessions on the use of generative AISAG-AFTRA believes that current proposals are insufficient to protect actors’ performances from unauthorized copying, and duplication, of their past works by AI.

While the strike will affect new games that have recently entered production or scheduled for development by the end of the year, many existing projects look set to continue as planned. This also applies to live-service games, which likely include Fortnite and Apex Legends.

However, if the strike should last more than 60 days, ongoing work on these games by SAG-AFTRA members would stop.

Depending on the length of the strike, companies could use non-union workers to replace current performers or be forced to delay future content and projects.
