Will 2025 be a historic year in terms of video games? Rockstar Games and GTA 6 will they dominate this year and make pop culture history? If all goes well, yes, since the game is expected for fall 2025 and there is every reason to believe that it will panic all the counters. According to an analysis firm, Rockstar’s next title could break all records and generate more than $3.2 billion on his first year.
GTA 6, the most profitable cultural product in history?
To say that the release of GTA 6 is (highly) anticipated is an understatement. Last year, the first trailer broke three world records in 24 hours and now has more than 230 million views. It must be said that it has already been 12 years since GTA 5, the latest Grand Theft Auto, was released. And inevitably, it’s starting to do a lot and the fans are impatient.
When it was released in 2013, GTA 5 had already marked the video game industry by breaking all world records such as the best-selling video game over 24 hours, the most profitable, the fastest sold and many others. In total, in one week, seven world records were broken by Rockstar’s latest game. In three days, GTA 5 had generated the tidy sum of 1 billion dollars. It sold 33 million copies in three months, between September 17, 2013 and December 31, 2013.
Eleven years later, GTA 5 has now reached $10 billion in revenue. It is the most profitable cultural entertainment product in history in terms of revenue generated, far ahead of Avatar and its 2.9 billion or Avengers: Endgame and its 2.7 billion dollars. Thus, the release of GTA 6 promises to be a real event.
According to the Financial Times analysis firm, GTA 6 will indeed sweep away everything in its path in 2025. The firm estimates that pre-orders alone could bring in $1 billion. Over the entire year, the title could generate more than $3.2 billion in revenue, twice as much as GTA 5 at the time. Proof that expectations and ambitions are very high for the next game from Rockstar Games which is, for the moment, still expected for fall 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
