A new job listing at Guerrilla Games may indicate that the studio has high confidence in the appeal of its upcoming Horizon multiplayer project. Although the Horizon multiplayer game hasn’t been revealed yet, Guerrilla Games seems to be anticipating massive player interest in this live-service title.
Since the launch of Horizon Forbidden West in 2022 and its Burning Shores DLC the following year, there hasn’t been much news from Guerrilla other than their collaborations on smaller projects like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and LEGO Horizon Adventures. However, there has been ample evidence for years to suggest that Guerrilla is working on a Horizon multiplayer game. Job ads from 2018 already hinted at the existence of the Horizon multiplayer project, and by 2025, that’s all but confirmed.
Although it is not clear when Guerrilla will announce its Horizon multiplayer project, the newly revealed information may indicate that the studio has high ambitions when it comes to the number of players. In fact, in a recent job posting for a Senior Platform Engineer position, Guerrilla may be expecting more than a million players for the Horizon multiplayer game. This is hinted at in the requirements for the position, which mentions “proven experience building and operating multi-service systems with more than a million users globally deployed across multiple public cloud providers.” Guerrilla also appears to be building a robust live-service infrastructure for the Horizon multiplayer project. which can support more than a million players.
Guerrilla may be ensuring the safe launch of the Horizon multiplayer game
On the other hand, this may not be Guerrilla Games’ expectation so much as a preventative measure to ensure players don’t encounter difficulties during the process of signing up for Horizon multiplayer. For example, the servers for Helldivers 2 were extremely overloaded for several weeks due to the game’s unexpectedly huge popularity on PS5 and PC, which disrupted both existing and new players. Therefore, it wouldn’t be too unrealistic to assume that Guerrilla wants to avoid a similar situation for the Horizon multiplayer game. While it’s not guaranteed that the Horizon multiplayer game will experience the same level of success as Helldivers 2, you can’t blame Guerrilla Games for wanting to be ready no matter what.
The Horizon multiplayer game has been in development for several years now, so if there aren’t any serious issues in the background, Guerrilla is probably planning to announce this live-service title this year. A few months ago, a job ad at Guerrilla Games suggested that a new Horizon game could be released in 2025. Considering that the third main Horizon title will still be a long way off, it is possible that the mentioned game from 2025 will be the Horizon multiplayer project.
