Miscreants set fire to various government buildings and structures in the capital’s Mahakhali in the name of quota reform movement. They used gunpowder in these fires. Detectives are working on the ground to find out how and through whom the miscreants brought gunpowder and weapons.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective) Haroon Or Rashid told reporters at his office on Wednesday afternoon.

Haroon Or Rashid said, ‘In the name of the movement, there has been vandalism and arson and looting in Dhaka city. Police were brutally beaten to death and injured to break morale. Attacks on various important facilities including information technology data centers. We have evidence to provide logistics for the attack.’

He also said that quota reform movement is going on in Dhaka University. Killed policemen, attacked state important installations, data centers, BTV, our pride metrorail. Gunpowder has been burned everywhere. They went back to the old days like ’71.’

Miscreants went on rampage across the capital on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the name of quota reform. They attacked, looted and set fire to various structures including Mohakhali Bridge Building, Disaster Management Directorate Building, Mohakhali Elevated Expressway Toll Plaza. Many government vehicles and valuables were destroyed in the fire. As many as 154 cases have been registered so far in cases of violence across the capital. About 1,800 people have been arrested. Who were BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists and were directly involved in sabotage.

In the press conference, Additional Commissioner of Intelligence Police Haroon Or Rashid claimed that some leaders of Jamaat Shibir and BNP have collected people from different areas including Sattala Basti and Kuril Basti in Setu Bhaban of Mohakhali. After that, they gathered in Mahakhali and started brick and mortar. Later they went to the bridge building They broke in, set fires and looted.

He also claimed that after these incidents they got CCTV footage. It revealed the names of many involved in how they set fire and looted goods. Money was also announced for killing the police and setting fire. This senior officer of DMP also said that who gave the instructions, who financed everything will be found out.
