The urban regeneration strategic plan is a plan to establish an urban regeneration promotion strategy, such as designating urban regeneration activation areas, to revitalize the original downtown area that is suffering from aging buildings and stagnant commercial districts. It is established by each city and county in accordance with relevant laws and approved by Gyeonggi-do.

Gapyeong-gun comprehensively analyzed the state of decline in the region and based on this, presented a regeneration vision called ‘Gapyeong, a cultural and leisure city with healing resonance where living and working places, culture and residents come together.’ Two areas, Yeoul Market in Cheongpyeong-myeon and Jatgoeul Market in Gapyeong-eup, were finally designated as revitalization areas.

With the approval of this urban regeneration strategic plan, Gapyeong-gun established a revitalization plan for each revitalization area and laid the foundation for promoting urban regeneration projects. Even in declining areas that were not designated as revitalized areas, projects could now be promoted through neighborhood revitalization programs.

Since 2018, Gyeonggi Province has been providing provincial funding and expert consulting for urban regeneration strategies and revitalization plans established by cities and counties so that they can actively pursue urban regeneration projects.

Ahn Seong-hyun, head of the Gyeonggi-do regeneration planning team, said, “We expect that urban regeneration projects that meet the expectations of local residents will be stably promoted by establishing an urban regeneration revitalization plan based on the Gapyeong-gun urban regeneration strategic plan approved this time.” He added, “Urban regeneration will continue to be carried out in the future.” “We will continue to provide all support and capabilities so that residents can feel the effects,” he said.
