- Hackers try to gain access to phone data with the help of gift packages
- They send packages by post and seem very credible
- All it takes is a moment of inattention and you’ll lose everything
Who wouldn’t be happy with a gift package that comes free of charge with no strings attached? In this way, some companies try to force the first issue of the magazine on us (after which you can order another), a magazine with individual parts of a kit for children, or maybe a charity sends a small gift with a request for a contribution. This kind of spam happens quite often. And hackers have now figured out how to take advantage of it.
The alert for this clever trick comes from the United States of America. Fraudsters are said to have started sending people gift packages that cost nothing and are real gifts. It’s extra on them recipient’s name and address printedso at first glance it is not a scam. The latter occurs only after the trustees scan the attached QR code with their mobile phone. Behind it is supposed to be something else sensational, free or beneficial. Which is very tempting for a lot of people – and it’s worth the scan, isn’t it?
But this QR code scanning can cost more than you think. He can hide behind the code virus or malicious softwarewhich copies all data, photos, contacts and personal data from your mobile and sends them to the attacker. And you can’t do anything about it.
The fact that this type of fraud is currently only spreading in the USA does not mean that someone in Europe or the Czech Republic cannot soon be inspired by it. Therefore, if you receive an unknown shipment, always search for sender information. And if you come across an unfamiliar QR code, think twice if you really want to open the address hidden behind it.
Ideally, you should then have updated operating system in your mobile phone, making it much more difficult for a possible attacker to obtain your data.
