“Haenyeo: Last Women of the Sea” – a new documentary now available on Apple TV+

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in support of women’s rights. Some time ago, Apple signed a contract with the Extracurricular film studio she founded. Today, a new film resulting from this collaboration, titled “Haenyeo: Last Women of the Sea”, debuted on the Apple TV+ catalog.





The mentioned film is a full-length documentary about haenyeo (literally “women of the sea”) – inhabitants of the South Korean island of Jeju, who fish for seafood by diving to a depth of 20 – 30 meters without air tanks. The average age of these women is currently 60, but their profession It is also slowly becoming more and more popular among younger representatives of the local community. Malala Yousafzai was one of the film’s producers. The A24 studio, known for such films as “Moonlight”, “The Lighthouse” and others, was also involved in the work on it “Hereditary”.
