Hamilton drives Ayrton Senna’s 1990 World Cup winning car in Sao Paulo on Saturday

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will be able to drive the race car of three-time World Cup winner Ayrton Senna, who died in legendary and tragic circumstances, on the Saturday of the weekend’s Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix.

At the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, the 39-year-old British driver will be behind the wheel of the McLaren MP4/5B racing car with which Senna won his second World Championship title in 1990.

“It will undoubtedly be a very emotional experience. It is impossible for me to remain calm about this”

– said Hamilton, who has been an honorary Brazilian citizen for two years, at the Thursday press conference leading up to the weekend’s competition.

Senna won his first world title in 1988, and after 1990 he also triumphed in 1991. The Brazilian driver, who lost his life at the age of 34 in a racing accident at the San Marino Grand Prix on May 1, 1994, is still remembered on the anniversary of his death and at the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.
