(Health Korea News / Park Won-jin) Hansol Hospital (Director Lee Dong-geun), a colorectal specialty hospital designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, recently achieved its 5,000th single-port laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery.
Hansol Hospital, which first introduced single-port laparoscopic surgery in Korea in March 2012, has been recording steady growth every year, and reached the milestone of 5,000 cases in August. Looking at the frequency of the 5,000 hernia surgeries, the order is ▲indirect hernia ▲direct hernia ▲pantaloon hernia ▲femoral hernia.
Single-port laparoscopic surgery is a highly difficult surgical technique that involves inserting a camera and surgical instruments through a laparoscopic port through a single incision of about 1.5 cm in the navel. Compared to conventional laparoscopic surgery with 3 to 4 incisions, it has the advantage of less bleeding, scarring, and pain, and faster recovery. The medical staff at Hansol Hospital’s Laparoscopic Surgery Center treats more than 90% of surgical patients with this surgical technique.
Hansol Hospital explained, “So far, not a single case of infection has been reported after single-port laparoscopic surgery,” and “We are applying single-port laparoscopic surgery not only to hernias, but also to appendicitis, colon cancer, and cholecystectomy.”
Hansol Hospital’s Laparoscopic Surgery Center operates a one-stop system where the surgical, internal medicine, and radiology medical staff work together organically to quickly perform everything from examinations for accurate diagnosis of diseases to surgery.
Dr. Lee Cheol-seung, head of the Department of Colorectal Surgery, said, “Our hospital treats patients with the utmost priority through collaboration with highly skilled medical staff who complete single-incision laparoscopic surgeries without converting to open surgery in over 99% of laparoscopic surgeries.” He added, “We will continue to conduct research to provide high-quality medical services in the future and strive to become a regional hospital that plays a leading role.”
Meanwhile, Hansol Hospital’s medical staff is receiving attention from the medical community by publishing 72 papers in SCI international academic journals, the largest number in Korea. In particular, it is being evaluated that it has raised the level of laparoscopic robotic surgery to a new level.
Hansol Hospital developed the Hansol-Roll folding method using self-fixing mesh for the first time in the world and published it in the online international journal ‘Asian Journal of Surgery’ last March, and the Artisental Mini Robotic Surgery method, which can replace robotic surgery, was published in the online ‘Asian Journal of Surgery’ last April.
