In November 2024, the series Duna: Prophecy became a phenomenon on Czech streaming platforms. This prequel to the successful film Dune from 2021 attracted viewers not only with an elaborate story, but also with a stellar cast. Set thousands of years before the events of the films, the series offers a fascinating look at the origins of the mysterious Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
The series Dune: The Prophecy is a hit
Dune: The Prophecy follows Harkonnen sisters Valya and Tula as they face dangers threatening the future of humanity and found the legendary Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Valya Harkonnen is portrayed by Emily Watson, winner of several prestigious awards, while her sister Tula is played by Olivia Williams. Other notable characters include Desmond Hart played by Travis Fimmel (of Vikings fame) and Emperor Javicco Corrino played by the charismatic Mark Strong.
The first season of the series has six episodes, which are published at weekly intervals on the Max platform. Czech viewers could enjoy the first episode from November 18. The series has been praised for its great acting and authentically capturing the atmosphere of the Dune universe. The series works both as a supplement and as a stand-alone story that deepens fans’ knowledge of this fascinating Dune universe from the workshop of Frank Herbert.

The world of Dune is growing
The series expands the world that the audience got to know in the film Dune by Denis Villeneuve. While the film follows the young Paul Atreides and his fate on the planet Arrakis, the series reveals how the power structures and political ties that shaped the entire universe of Dune were created. The second part of the film series, Dune: Part Two, which continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel, arrived in cinemas in March 2024. At the end of 2026, the final part of the trilogy is scheduled to premiere, which will also conclude it.
More streaming hits of November
In addition to Dune: Prophecy, other titles also ranked among the most popular series in the Czech Republic. For example, Cesta ven (“From”) captivated with the mysterious story of a community trapped in a mysterious city from which there is no escape. The sci-fi thriller Silo, on the other hand, follows a tense drama in a dystopian world where survivors inhabit giant underground complexes. The animated series Arcane also attracted attention, which enchanted the audience with its visual processing and emotional story from the world of League of Legends.
November brought a diverse lineup of series, but Dune: The Prophecy deservedly earned a place at the top of the list thanks to its epic vision and acting. If you haven’t started watching it yet, you definitely have something to look forward to.
