Cristiano Ronaldo has criticized his former Manchester United coach Erik ten Haga.
According to Ronaldo, the Red Devils helmsman should not say the things he mentioned recently from his position as Manchester United coach.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner gave former team-mate Rio Ferdinand a big interview which will be broadcast on Thursday. But details of it have already appeared in the British media.
Ronaldo scored 145 goals in 326 games for Manchester United during his two spells at the club, winning nine trophies including the Champions League.
His second spell at Old Trafford between 2021 and 2022 came to a bitter end after he failed to get on with then-new manager Erik ten Hag.
“As I said before, I think Manchester United need to rebuild everything from the ground up,” the Daily Mail quoted Ronaldo as saying to Ferdinand during the interview. And after them came a lot of criticism towards the Dutch coach.
“The coach says they are not capable of fighting for the title and the trophy in the Champions League. As the manager of Manchester United, you cannot say that you will not fight for the title and the Champions League trophy. You have to mentally take the attitude that maybe you don’t have that potential, but you can’t say so. You have to at least communicate that you will try,” Al-Nassru football player said about his former coach.
Since the Hag took charge of the Red Devils, the team finished third and then eighth in the Premier League. However, he won the League Cup and last season the English FA Cup. It is these achievements that the Hag regularly mentions when journalists ask him about the team’s poor performances.
Eighth place in the English top flight is Manchester United’s worst performance in the Premier League era, while the team did not even qualify from the group stage in the last season of the Champions League.
