The discovery of the missing person occurred purely by chance on the street by the municipal police in Conegliano, in the province of Treviso. Relatives were immediately notified, including the now 87-year-old mother who rushed to Veneto to hug her son again who, however, after the meeting, chose not to return.
Having moved away from home in Riccione and disappeared into thin air for decadesa man was found alive by chance in recent weeks in Veneto after twenty years. It happened in the last days of last year, during the Christmas period, in the streets of Conegliano, in the province of Treviso. The discovery of the missing person occurred purely by chance by the local municipal police on patrol in the city.
During normal territory control activitiesIn fact, the officers came across a homeless man on the street who was wandering aimlessly. The man was asked for his personal details and documents and so during the identification procedure it was discovered that he was a fifty-year-old from Romagna who had disappeared twenty years earlier and about whom nothing had been known since.
At the time, a regular missing person report had also been filed with the police for the man his family had searched for him for a long time but to no avail. His story had in fact become one of the many unsolved cases of missing persons in Italy. The family had never given up but without any clue as to his whereabouts the search had ended in nothing.

Over time, the relatives had also turned to the Penelope association, the organization that deals with disappeared people in Italy to keep attention high on unsolved cases, also providing legal and psychological support to the family members. The man’s name and missing person’s file had ended up in the association’s database and thanks to this the agents were able to contact the 50-year-old’s family and promptly notify them of the discovery.
Great news for the family and the now 87 year old mother who rushed to Veneto to hug her son again. “Thanks to the persistence of Marisa degli Angeli, President of the Penelope Emilia Romagna Association, a mother has embraced her son again after twenty years” declared the president of the association Barbara Iannuccelli. After the meeting, however, the man preferred to continue his life of homeless people without returning home.
