A friend gave a couple from Baltimore, Maryland, a lottery ticket for Christmas.
First, the wife scratched the lottery ticket, but her combination of numbers did not win. Her husband was more fortunate. At first he thought he had hit US$10,000 (€9,600), but when he took a closer look, he noticed another zero. A friend gave him a $100,000 lottery ticket for Christmas! Unable to believe what he was seeing, he left the party, walked to a nearby store, where a clerk checked and confirmed that his ticket was indeed a winner. He limped back to the party, which was fueled by his announcement, he later told Maryland State Lottery officials.
