Seven-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier is still in great physical shape five years after the end of her biathlon career.
The 31-year-old German conquered the Himalayan peak Ama Dablam in a record time of 12:01:11 h.
Dahlmeier succeeded in the ascent twice, while in the second independent attempt she climbed the 6812 m high mountain in 8 hours and 24 minutes.
It took her the aforementioned twelve hours to return, which no woman had done faster before.
“It made for an incredible day in every way. The climbing was just as exciting as the breathtaking landscape around me.
But for me it wasn’t about breaking records, but about being embraced by the mountains and doing what I love the most – moving, climbing, observing and feeling alive with every single step,” Dahlmeier wrote on Instagram.
The German ended her career in 2019. During it, she participated in two Winter Olympic Games – in Sochi (2014) and Pyeongchang (2018).
She won two gold and a bronze medal in the Republic of Korea. The skilful has fifteen medals (7 – 3 – 5) in her collection from the World Cup and in the 2016/2017 year she took the overall championship in the World Cup.
