Shortly after teaming up with Simona Halep at the World Tennis League, the demonstration tournament held in Abu Dhabi, Nick Kyrgios launched another devastating attack. The “targets” were obviously Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek.
It happened during a press conference held in Brisbane, a tournament that will mark the Australian’s return to the circuit after a long break caused by wrist and knee injuries. He has not played an official match since June 2023.
Nick Kyrgios put the guns on Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek again
Jannik Sinner currently dominates the ATP rankings, while Iga Swiatek is second behind Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka, but was world leader for a time. Therefore, Nick Kyrgios could not overlook the fact that two such important figures of the white sport ended up facing doping cases.
“It is disgusting for our sport that two world leaders have been convicted of doping. It’s a horrible sight. The integrity of tennis right now is compromised, and everyone knows it, but no one wants to talk about it, it’s terrible.
Never in my life would I try to dope in this sport. Especially going through an injury like the one I went through. Obviously there are things that could speed up the healing, help me get back on top, help my recovery.
There are so many things that are banned in our sport that I could have done to get back faster…but that’s not me. I’m always against this,” said the player who years ago occupied the 13th position in the world ranking.
Question marks about Sinner: “Why did he wait five, six months?”
To avoid a suspension, Jannik Sinner claimed that tested positive for clostebol due to negligence on the part of the physiotherapist, who accidentally contaminated him during training. The cited reason led the ITIA not to suspend him, but did not convince Kyrgios.
“I pay my team hundreds and thousands of dollars to be the professionals that they are, to make sure this doesn’t happen. So they knew it happened. Why did he wait five to six months to do something about it? He kept his team for five months … that doesn’t make sense,” the Australian added.
