There has been no common thread in Hugh Grant’s film roles since 1994, when his performance in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ cemented his status as the arch-British first love and great charmer. But the latest series of outlandish and sometimes creepy characters is such an effective break with that type that you start to think you’ve misjudged him from the start.
