Mourning in the world of cycling: the former French rider was 60 years old and had recently undergone stomach surgery. The pain of ex-partner Laurent Brochard.

The cycling world is in mourning. Own Pascal Hervé, a former French runner, passed away on Christmas day very well known especially in the 90s, when it was one of Richard Virenque’s most faithful followers at Festina. He was 60 years old and a few months ago he revealed that he had undergone asurgical operation for complete removal of the stomachafter discovering a tumor in the same organ. It is unclear, however, whether his death was linked to the cancer and its complications, or to some other reason.

The note from the UNCP union: “Pascal Hervé is dead”

The news of Hervé’s death was announced by Uncp, the French cyclists’ unionthrough a post on X. “The UNCP, the great cycling family, is in mourning. It is with deep sadness that we learn of the death of Pascal Hervé. Pascal was an emblematic figure and an essential voice of our sport. Our thoughts are with his family. Sincere condolences to his loved ones”, we read in the social note of the transalpine trade union association.

Hervé’s death: the condolences of Brochard and Moreau

The demonstrations of condolence and closeness on the part of were touching Hervé’s former teammates, including Laurent Brochard, world champion in 1997 and Pascal’s teammate at Festina. “You left on Christmas night, my friend, you were such a rock until the end… I have so many memories, so many good moments, we had so many plans for the future… I have no words. You were always there, always a word, even in difficult moments. I love you and hug you my friend, we’ll see you again, I’ll miss you.” This instead the memory of Christophe Moreau: “No words… Only tears and deep sadness… We will miss you, my Calou. Rest in peace my friend.”

Hervè, a life in cycling: the pink jersey and doping

Gregario with seven lungs, tireless worker and always at the service of his captains, as well as a regular presence at the great stage races between the 90s and the early 2000s, Hervé had been world champion among amateurs and he had experienced a brief moment of glory during the 1996 Giro, when he managed to wear the pink jersey. During the 1998 Tour de France he was involved in the Festina affairlinked to the so-called “team doping”, for which he was suspended for two months like his teammates. His career ended definitively in 2001after testing positive again at the Giro d’Italia.
