He won bronze at the Paris Olympics with cancer!

Canadian tennis player Gabriela Dabrowski revealed on her social media account the absolutely shocking drama she experienced in 2024, the year she would win the mixed doubles bronze medal at the Paris Olympics and the Women’s Doubles Tournament of Champions.
The world number 3 in the WTA doubles hierarchy announced that at the moment she is “ok”, in an Instagram post to her 36.7 thousand followers. Paradoxically, precisely in the year in which she achieved such performances, the athlete had to play the most important match of her life, in which she was not allowed to lose, the one with breast cancer. With the statements made now, it seems that she came out victorious.
The nightmare began in 2023, when performing a self-palpation on her breast she discovered a small lump. The doctor he went to told him that there was nothing to worry about, because it was nothing alarming. After another year the nodule had gotten bigger and he went to the doctor again, where he received the grim diagnosis.
For about a year, he followed the specific treatment for this disease, with chemotherapy sessions, but he did not give up tennis, although he had several moments when he could not hit the ball at work due to pain.

“I know this will come as a shock to many, but I am OK and I will be OK. Early detection saves lives. Everything seems surreal. Why am I sharing my story now? For a long time I was not ready to expose myself to the attention and questions I would have received before. I wanted to figure it all out and deal with things in private, only with those closest to me.
There were so many unknowns. I now have a better understanding of the treatment, the side effects and how to manage them. My intentions in sharing some of my experience is to emphasize the quality of life that can be maintained when cancer is caught early.
It’s great when you have access to doctors and other health care practitioners who are highly qualified and dedicated to their profession, when you take care of your mental, physical and spiritual well-being, and when you surround yourself with people who really support you.
In her first tournament after surgery, she won the Nottingham grass court title with New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe. The pair then reached the final at Wimbledon, but were defeated by Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend.
He then postponed his treatment to represent Canada at the Paris Olympics, where he amazingly won bronze. Dabrowski later capped her season with a WTE final win over Routliffe, becoming the first Canadian woman to win the title.
