Health Marathon: Allergies in children

A successful event for parents in the Social Moms community.

On October 27, 2024, at the Pullman Hotel in Bucharest, Social Moms organized the conference Health Marathon: Allergies in children – complete guide for parentsan event for parents and healthcare professionals who want to better understand the challenges of childhood allergies.

Romania is facing an increasing incidence of allergies, affecting one in four adults, and respiratory and food allergies are becoming more and more common in children as well, according to statistics. The Health Marathon provided valuable information and practical solutions for parents of children facing these conditions.

The event, which brought together over 400 parents, was moderated by the well-known journalist and influencer Dan Cruceru, known as Taticool, and the structure of the event was organized into two thematic panels:

Panel 1: Respiratory allergies – How do we protect children?

In this panel, the speakers discussed the most common respiratory allergies in children and how their symptoms can be recognized and managed. Topics covered included allergic rhinitis, asthma, differentiating between allergies and other respiratory conditions, prevention of allergen exposure, and available treatments. The panel was attended by:

  • Dr. Denisse Crețu – Primary ENT doctor

Panel 2: Atopic dermatitis and food allergies – The allergic child’s journey through the atopic march

The second panel was dedicated to atopic dermatitis and food allergies, exploring the causes, diagnosis and care of sensitive skin, as well as strategies for identifying and managing food allergies. The emotional aspects of allergic reactions were also addressed, as well as the integration of allergic children into the community. The panel was supported by:

  • Alexandra Christ – Psychologist, consultant and relational trainer in the ESPERE® Method

Education and information for parents plays a key role in improving the quality of life of children with allergies. By properly understanding the signs and symptoms of allergies and methods of prevention and treatment, parents can help reduce the long-term impact of these conditions on their children. Events of this type also provide a space for parents to connect to share their experiences, solutions and challenges, thus creating a community of mutual support and understanding. The Health Marathon managed to create an educational space where participants received personalized answers to their questions in Q&A sessions, directly from experts.
