Helmut Marko hints at driver decision at RB

In Formula 1, planning for the new season is already in full swing. Most teams have already filled the cockpits. Soon, the Racing Bulls will also be officially ready.

As Red Bull’s motorsport boss Helmut Marko revealed on the sidelines of the Azerbaijan GP, something could be announced as early as next week.

“We have an idea. Wait until Singapore. By then we will have a clear picture,” promised the 81-year-old in an interview with the streaming platform “Viaplay”.

Formula 1 will be visiting Singapore between September 20 and September 22. There, it will finally be decided who will be allowed to drive an RB car alongside Yuki Tsunoda next year. “There will be clarity about what will happen,” announced Marko.

When asked, he did not want to reveal a name. When asked specifically about youngster Liam Lawson, the Red Bull boss just smiled: “Just wait until Singapore.”

Formula 1 will soon be complete

Behind closed doors, it is almost certain that the 22-year-old will get the second cockpit at the Racing Bulls next year, replacing veteran Daniel Ricciardo.

The substitute driver had already competed in five races in the premier class of motorsport last year when Ricciardo had to retire with a broken hand. He impressed many critics during his guest appearance.

“I saw him drive last year and I think he did a great job. I think he deserves a place on the grid,” Ricciardo himself recently praised.

If Red Bull does not offer the youngster a cockpit next year, Lawson’s contract will apparently end. He could then sign up with another team.

Apart from the Racing Bulls, only Sauber has not yet finalised its driver pairing for 2025. Nico Hülkenberg has secured his place in the car.

Mick Schumacher still hopes for a chance with the upcoming Audi team. But the competition is tough.
