The 1980s classic animation Voltron is being turned into a movie.

The Hollywood Reporter according to Voltron, which turns 40 this fall, is being made into a big-budget science fiction action movie with The Witcher and Iron Man star Henry Cavill attached to star.

Voltron is directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, known for Red Notice, Skyscraper and Dodgeball.

The original Voltron series, known for its giant robot, cannot be found on Finnish streaming services, but while you wait for the movie, you can watch the retro Voltron: Warrior of the Universe, which has already been published for eight seasons, on Netflix.

Wikipedia shed some light on the story of the original Voltron series:

“The series is about Voltron, the greatest robot in the universe, who chased away the evil villains of the universe. As peace descended on Earth, a new alliance was created that would secure the peace of the universe with the help of Voltron for a longer time. However, a new threat soon appeared in the galaxy called King Zarkon, under whose leadership they managed to get rid of Voltron when the witch Haggar managed to separate Voltron into five parts. The new space adventurers were sent out by the leaders of the alliance founded by Earth to find the five parts of Voltron. The five soon find their way through King Zarkon to Queen Allora and Coran, where Voltron has been kept hidden. The five eventually get their hands on the lion-looking robots, which, combined with a special key, create Voltron. The five go to battle against King Zarkan and his son Lotor and to protect the universe and the planet Arus.”
