Her Story, Her Future – mentoring program for women in the film industry announces with enthusiasm the inaugural event of the second edition – the industry talk Empowering Women in Film Industry. It will take place within the prestigious European Film Festival Palicin Serbia, reached its 31st edition, Monday, July 22, at 18:00.
Moderated by the filmmaker and researcher Mirona Radu, founder of the program, the industry talk will explore the transformative power of female mentorship in the film industry. The panel will include discussions of stories that lead to opportunities for personal growth, challenges women face in their own professional development in the film industry, and personal strategies used to cultivate self-confidence and assertiveness.
The panel will benefit from the input of the mentors for the second edition of the program:
- Elena Rubashevska (Ukraine) – Film critic, vice-president of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) and editor-in-chief. Elena is known for her significant contributions to the field of international film criticism and for coordinating prestigious film festival programs.
- Eva Demeter (Hungary) – Director of the Alexandre Trauner ART/Film Festival, Eva actively contributes to projects promoting film accessibility and education in diverse communities. At the same time, he coordinates one of the most beautiful art cinemas in Hungary, in Szolnok.
- Marta Popivoda (Serbia/Germany) – Film director, researcher and multidisciplinary artist, Marta explores the intersections between memory, history and identity in her works. She is recognized for her innovative works, presented in prestigious art galleries around the world, such as Tate Modern in London, MoMA in New York, MAXXI in Rome, etc.
- Monica Stan (Romania) – Film director with a unique perspective on the interaction between reality and fiction in cinematography. He made his successful directorial debut in Venice with the film “Immaculate”, winning major awards for debut and screenplay.
- Monika Husar (Serbia) – Expert in communication and organization of cultural projects, Monika contributed to the promotion and communication of film festivals in Eastern Europe, such as European Film Festival Palic, Sarajevo Film Festival, Slovenian Film Festival, etc. She is known for her involvement in gender equality and inclusion projects in the film industry.
- Olympia Melinte (Romania) – Successful actress with an internationally recognized career, awarded by the Actors’ Union of Spain, and actively involved in promoting Romanian film globally.
- Zhana Kalinova (Bulgaria/Germany) – Film curator, producer and distributor, Zhana has made significant contributions to the organization of major film events in Europe, such as the European Film Awards 2022 and 2023, Berlinale 2022. Programmer for the International and Balkan Competitions at the International Film Festival Film from Sofia, curator Film O’Clock International Festival, etc.
The event at Palic promises to be a moment of reflection and inspiration, amplifying the voices and contributions of women in the film industry.
This industry talk is part of a three-month mentorship program, in which seven participants from Romania benefit from individual and group meetings with these mentors with international expertise in the field of film. The program also includes two physical meetings at traditional film festivals: Palic Film Festival – Serbia and Alexandre Trauner Art/Film Festival – Hungary, the latter offering the participants the opportunity to be actively involved in the jury awarding the award for the best short film made by a woman. At the end of the project, in November, an international online pitch will be organized, where each participant will present a film project, and a jury of three professionals in the field will award a prize of EUR 1,000 for the best pitch.
Her Story, Her Future is dedicated to strengthening the careers of women in the film industry and promoting diversity and gender equality through mentorship and collaboration.
