The universe of Lord of the Rings is extremely rich in magic, but few characters in Middle-earth possess the ability to master this science. We of course have the Istari including Gandalf and Saruman, or even Sauron, but among Men, Hobbits, Dwarves and Elves, this is much rarer. Among these exceptions, we have precisely the Lady of the Woods of Lothlórien: the magnificent and powerful Galadriel. The latter has three great powers which were of great use in the war against Sauron.

Telepathy

As we discover in Lord of the RingsGaladriel can read the minds of others and even communicate with people who are quite open-minded. This seems like a power to the peoples of Middle-earth other than the Elves, but for the latter it is relatively natural except that difficult to master. The Lady of Lothlórien being one of the oldest elves in JRR Tolkien’s universe still alive during the events that we follow in The Fellowship of the Ring, she had plenty of time to refine her telepathy and thus become the most powerful we know in this art.

La divination

This other great ability that Galadriel has is in a sense related to the first. Indeed, the visions she has of the future come down to thoughts directly sent by Melian la Maia – from whom she learned a lot in her youth – and Eru Ilúvatar, the god of Middle-earth. To amplify this power, the lady of Lothlórien uses her famous mirror into which she pours water from her magic fountain, where she has captured the light of the star of Eärendil.

The Nenya Ring

Even if it is not strictly speaking a power, this magic ring gives Galadriel a great amplification of her powers and she thus even manages to hide her kingdom from the eyes of Sauron. Nenya also allows him not to be affected by the passage of time and therefore to retain all his power until the end of the war against Sauron.
