Here are the most frequently reported traffic violations!

30 million fines were sent to motorists last year. But the traffic code penalties are not equal in number.

In its latest annual report, the National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory (ONISR) recorded 30.1 million traffic violations last year, noted by national law enforcement, ANTAI and municipal police Alas, the year 2023 was unfortunately a “good” harvest, highlighting worrying behaviors of motorists while driving.

Speeding, the leading cause of fines

In detail, we have exactly 30,085,157 traffic violations punished last year. A slight increase compared to 2022 (+ 15,000 PV), which had already recorded a high number. By service, the official 2023 road safety report reports that law enforcement (gendarmerie and national police) collected 5.5 million PV, municipal police, 7.7 million. Finally, automatic speed cameras are still the most prolific, with 16.8 million reviews. In addition, we must add 13.6 million post-parking passes (FPS) – or + 7% compared to 2022 – which since 2018 are no longer counted in the fines report. As a result, in total, more than 43 million tickets were distributed last year, or 3 million more than in 2017, a previous record year in this area…

On the 1,180 reasons to take a plum, speeding remains, over the years, the leading cause of issuing fines. These therefore rank at the top of the PV list. Mainly detected by automatic speed cameras (96%), they gave rise to 17.2 million fines, or 250,000 more than in 2022.

The 20 most penalized traffic violations

Another particularly worrying “performance” is the number of traffic offenses, which continues to grow. With nearly 895,000 offenses recorded, mainly for lack of insurance, this is 2% more than in 2022 and above all + 50% compared to 2017.
