Tesla has just made the new restyled Model Y official, also called Juniper by rumors. For the moment, it is only sold in China, but here is what Tesla’s new SUV looks like.
The new restyled Tesla Model Y has finally been made official by the American manufacturer in China. The opportunity to see the final design, even if the stolen photos have multiplied in recent days, revealing the design of this new electric car.
A completely new design
As we can see, the front has been transformed, thanks to the huge LED strip which serves as a daytime running light and which extends onto the headlights, also LED. Contrary to what rumors announced, there are no LEDs in the lower part of the bumper, with simple vertical air inlets, which brings dynamism to the car.
At the rear, it’s the same story: Tesla took the base of the Model Y, replacing the old headlights with a huge LED bar. The final result is really interesting. But the overall rendering of this new Tesla clearly makes us think of certain Chinese cars, like the Onvo L60 for example or the Xpeng G7.
The rear diffuser is more prominent, which gives a more dynamic appearance to the vehicle.
On the side, there is not really anything new in terms of design, apart from the rims and hubcaps. In the 19-inch version, the hubcaps have a new design, a little more visually aerodynamic. In the 20-inch version, strangely, the new Model Y uses the rims of the Model 3 (the sedan) while the old one had rims with a design specially designed for the SUV.
The new 20-inch rims and the modified design give the impression of a more compact Tesla Model X.
An updated interior too
Inside, Tesla has used the recipe of the new Model 3. That is to say the new steering wheel, the removal of the controls (turn signals and windshield wipers), the new central console, the RGB LED which lights the entire cabin and finally the small screen in the middle for the rear seats.
The new Model Y also offers a new color in China: light blue. It is also possible to buy it in black, Quicksilver gray, red and white.
Increasing autonomy
The range of the new Tesla Model Y increases with this improvement. China announces 559 km of CTLC autonomy in Propulsion and 719 km for the large battery.
The Australian site announces 466 km of WLTP autonomy in Propulsion and 551 km in Integral Transmission. But be careful, these are 20-inch rims, because the 19-inch rims, which consume less energy (by around 8%), are not available in Australia.
We can therefore expect around 500 km of autonomy in Europe in Propulsion and 600 km in Long Autonomy, compared to 455 and 565 km on the current version.
Price and availability
The new Tesla Model Y is already available to order in China from 291,500 yuan (around 38,600 euros) in the rear-wheel drive version, and 331,500 yuan (around 43,900 euros) in the all-wheel drive version. The first deliveries are planned for March 2025.
For the moment, in Europe and the United States, the new Tesla Model Y is not available, the old one is still available for order. The reason is simple: the Shanghai factory produces cars intended for Asian markets. In Europe, it is the Berlin factory in Germany which produces vehicles intended for the Old Continent. We will therefore have to wait for the German factory to start production of the new Model Y, surely in a few weeks.
This was already the case with the restyled Tesla Model 3, which was first produced in China, before also being produced in the United States a few weeks later.
