Here are the three best games of 2024

Considered the biggest gaming ceremony of the year, The Spiel des Jahres delivered its verdict this weekendduring a ceremony followed around the world. A few months after the coronation of the As d’Or 2024, the biggest international board game prize has just rewarded the best titles of the year in the classic, children’s and expert categories.

Game of the Year: Sky Team

A cooperative game to be experienced by two players, Sky Team by Luc Rémond and published by Scorpion Masqué has won the prestigious title of game of the year 2024. An extension is already in the drawers, but it is the first version of the title that has been crowned. Faced with Captain Flip by Paolo Mori and Remo Conzadori at Playpunk, as well as Sur les traces de Darwin by Gregory Grard and Matthieu Verdier at Sorry We Are French, the simulation game is experiencing a deserved success since its releasewith a fun and very accomplished approach to its theme.

In Sky Team, You play as the pilot and co-pilot of an airliner and will be responsible for landing your aircraft safely, facing more or less difficult conditions according to one of the 21 chosen scenarios. At the editorial office, this is one of our favorites of the year.

Kinderspiel (Children’s game): Magic keys

Competing against Grosse Kleine Edelstein by Wolfgang Warsch at Schmidt, and Taco Chaton Pizza by Dave Campbell at Blue Orange Games, Clefs magiques is a nice game of stop or again published by Happy Baobab, and created by Arno Steinweinder and Marcus Schlawitczek. A wonderful world for children, magic keys that will allow you to open the treasure chest, crystals and a very beautiful decor all in 3D… It’s cute, it’s cleverand above all it’s a lot of fun.

Kennerspiel (Expert Game): Daybreak

It’s not easy to stand out against The Merchant Expeditions Guild by Brett J. Gilbert and Matthew Dunstan at AEG, and especially against the legendary Ticket to Ride Legacy – Legends of the West by Alan R. Moon, Matt Leacock, Rob Daviau. However, the Expert game of the year is none other than Daybreak, by Matt Leacock and Matteo Menapace.

With a eco-conscious theme around the infamous Overshoot Day (the day of the year when humanity lives energetically on credit, having spent all the resources that the Earth is capable of offering it in a year), Daybreak is a slap in the face. The cooperative title is intelligent, both in its theme and its rules. It also benefits from a very nice artistic direction and calls for degrowth and reflection.
