2023 was the first real year of normality after the pandemic, with Italians’ travel habits returning to normal levels, comparable to those of 2019. It is therefore not surprising that – according to what was photographed by Road accident report 2023 published by Aci and Istat – some items have risen. But much less than one might expect.
Looking at the numbers, in fact, there have been fewer accidents along Italian roads and highways, while deaths and injuries have decreased.
Situation improved
Here are the numbers from the report on accidents in Italy in 2023
Anno | Accidents | Dead | Wounded |

Going into detail, the daily average was 456 accidents (19 every hour), 615 injured (25.6 every hour) and 8.3 deaths (1 every 3 hours), for a social cost equal to 18 billion euros, that is, 1% of the national GDP.
Looking instead at the single months the worst one was July 2023with 16,536 accidents, 346 deaths and 22,486 injuries.
