Millions of votes are being counted in the United States right now.
Here you can follow the count in the seven swing states where the election is expected to be decided.
In brackets is how many electors the state counts.
Georgia (16)
At 1 a.m., Georgia became the first of the swing states to close polls. However, the election process was disrupted of bomb threats against 12 polling stations which, according to the state, originated from Russia. This may delay the count.
With 77 percent of the votes counted, Donald Trump leads with 52.1 percent of the votes. He has rounded 2 million votes, while Kamala Harris has 1.8 million.
We still need votes from the larger cities, including several counties in Atlanta, Athens and Savannah, which are expected to vote more Democratic. But in northern Georgia’s rural areas, where votes are still to be counted, Donald Trump is expected to stand strong.
At 03:39 Danish time, the New York Times gave Donald Trump an 81 percent probability of winning the state.
North Carolina (16)
With 55 percent of the votes counted, Donald Trump leads in North Carolina. However, the votes in larger cities such as Charlotte are expected to be counted last, and there the Democrats are comfortably in the swing.
At 01.30 the polling stations in the state closed – and they have been well attended. According to local media, the turnout may break the record from 2020, when 75 per cent. of the state’s inhabitants voted.
At 03:39 Danish time, The New York Times estimated that Donald Trump has a 79 percent chance of winning North Carolina.
Pennsylvania (19)
With just 33 percent counted, Kamala Harris leads, but it’s too early to call the state. She has garnered 1.1 million votes, while Trump has just reached one million.
Pennsylvania is the biggest swing state in the election and is therefore also considered the most important. Whoever wins Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes will have a much easier path to the White House.
It is expected that the Americans who vote on election day will predominantly vote Republican. But many citizens have voted by mail well in advance, and they usually vote with the Democrats. Therefore, we can expect large fluctuations as in the 2020 election, where Donald Trump – without evidence – claimed that the election in Pennsylvania had been rigged.
By the way, he has that too implied this time.
Michigan (15)
At the time of writing, 13 per cent of the votes counted. Kamala Harris has rounded up 381,000 votes, while Donald Trump has just over 324,000.
Most polling stations closed at 02:00, but some did not close until 03:00.
Michigan was a ‘blue state’ from the 1990s and for decades until Donald Trump narrowly won the state in 2016. However, Joe Biden recaptured Michigan in 2020.
Wisconsin (10)
At 3:00 a.m., counting began in the state, which is known to be one of the most difficult states to conduct accurate polls.
At the time of writing, only 20 percent of the votes have been counted. Donald Trump got the best out of the starting hole, but since then Kamala Harris has overtaken on the inside. She is currently leading weakly.
Watch out for the big city of Milwaukee, which has a large black population. If a large part of the population stays home or votes for Trump, Harris will have a very difficult time.
Also keep an eye on the suburbs. Are they tipping for Harris or Trump?
Arizona (11)
The polling stations closed at 03:00, but due to counting rules we do not expect to get numbers until around 04:00.
We are keeping an eye on the votes from the populous county of Maricopa County. Biden became the first Democrat in 72 years to win the county.
Nevada (6)
At 4 a.m., Nevada will be the last swing state to close the polls.
The state does not publish any results as long as there are still voters in line, and it may well be long after 04.00.
The state is also known for taking a long time to count votes, so if it becomes decisive, the decision may drag on.
An unusually high number of votes – 18,500 – have been declared invalid in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located. It writes The New York Times. This happens primarily because the citizens’ signatures do not match the signatures registered in the federal state’s election database.
Voters have until November 12 to correct their votes.
