here’s everything that changes in November 2024

The economic and social adjustments of November 2024 affect various aspects of daily life and particularly concern employees, retirees and motorists. Here is a detailed summary of the main new features at the start of November 2024.

Revaluation of the SMIC and increase in supplementary pensions

The minimum wage is increased by 2% from November 1, 2024. A decision which comes in anticipation of the increase normally planned for January 2025. The new amount of the gross hourly minimum wage thus reaches 11.88 euros, bringing the monthly net salary to around 1,426 euros for full-time employment. This measure responds to the evolution of inflation, knowing that the SMIC is the only salary indexed directly to it.

At the same time, private sector retirees will receive a 1.6% increase in their supplementary pension paid by Agirc-Arrco. This increase, which will take place from November 4, 2024, remains slightly lower than inflation, estimated at 1.8% for 2024. It represents on average a gain of 13 euros per month for a supplementary pension of 800 euros, and could constitute up to 60% of the total pension for certain former employees.

The winter break and the obligation to use winter tires

Another important new feature, the winter break also begins on November 1, extending the suspension of rental evictions until March 31. This measure aims to protect tenants in difficulty, particularly in the event of non-payment, by preventing them from being evicted during the colder months. However, certain exceptions exist, notably for squatters or tenants benefiting from rehousing.

Finally, motorists residing in mountainous areas must equip their vehicle with winter tires or have chains. This obligation, which extends until March 31, concerns 34 departments in France and aims to strengthen safety on the roads during winter, often marked by difficult weather conditions.

Finally, like every year, “No Tobacco Month” returns in November, with a 9th edition in 2024. This initiative encourages smokers to try to stop their tobacco consumption for at least 30 days. A support system is put in place, including personalized monitoring and advice on how to successfully quit. More than 73,000 volunteers have already registered to benefit from this program, which has proven itself in previous editions.
