Here’s how to use Adaptive Vibration on your Google Pixel

Android 15 brings a nifty new feature to your Google Pixel: customizable vibration. The device automatically adjusts the strength of the vibration function to your environment. This is how you set it up.

Customizable vibration on your Google Pixel

The vibration function on your smartphone is very useful if you don’t want to make noise, but you do want to notice it when you receive a notification. On many devices you can adjust the power of the vibration motor yourself. If you have a Google Pixel 7 or newer running Android 15, it is now also possible to use ‘Adaptive vibration’.

The device then automatically adjusts the intensity of the vibration. When you sit on the couch at home, it will vibrate more quietly than when you walk in a noisy shopping street. The idea is that the vibration will never be too hard or too soft again.

Sounds good? You have to set this function yourself. Follow the steps below to do this:

  1. Open the settings on your Google Pixel;
  2. Tap ‘Sound & Vibration’;
  3. Scroll to ‘Vibration and haptic technology’;
  4. Tap on ‘Custom Vibration’;
  5. Move the slider next to ‘Use adaptive vibration’ to the right.

Unfortunately, this function does not work on the Google Pixel 6 smartphones, even though they have had a (latest) upgrade to Android 15. This probably has to do with the quality of the haptic motor, responsible for the vibration function. Whether smartphones from other brands that will soon run on Android 15 will also receive Adaptive vibration may therefore differ per device.

More about Android 15

Android 15 is a relatively modest upgrade that does not drastically change your smartphone at first glance. However, the latest version of the operating system does contain a number of useful new features. This way you can hide certain apps and manually archive apps that you rarely or never use. Setting up app pairs makes multitasking even faster.
