Here’s the perfect soup recipe when you’re sick

While fall is the ultimate cocooning season, it’s also a time when common winter illnesses can strike: flu, colds, etc. It’s natural to turn to comforting hot drinks and vegetable soups to boost your immune system. Here’s the perfect recipe to give your body a boost, according to cookbook author Carleigh Bodrug.

An Italian soup recipe

On his Instagram account, @plantyouthe culinary expert shares a childhood recipe from her mother. It is a broth in which Carleigh Bodrug simmers celery, carrots, onion, garlic and ginger. Then, everything is mixed to obtain a creamy soup, to which the culinary expert adds small pasta (here bird tongues but you can also use vermicelli).

Carleigh Bodrug calls this soup “Italian penicillin.” Penicillin is an antibiotic widely used in general medicine. Of course, this soup does not replace medication, but can stimulate the body’s natural defenses. Indeed, the ingredients that compose it are known for their antioxidant and antibacterial properties. In addition, reduced in the form of soup, they allow the body to be well hydrated.

A great success

Speaking to her 5.2 million followers, Carleigh Bodrug said: “Have you heard of Italian Penicillin? It’s a soothing soup full of hidden vegetables.” She then added: “My mom would make this for me whenever I was feeling sick, which is ironic because I’m allergic to penicillin. It’s loaded with garlic, ginger, and a warm vegetable broth, so it’s the perfect meal for when you’re not feeling your best.”

The post presenting this “healthy soup” on Instagram received more than 120,000 “likes” and many complimentary comments. Why not try it?
